I am a Danish citizen - and first let me tell you: In Denmark we have a very strong economy. We have no unemployment; in fact we have to import foreign labour to keep the economic growth continuing. We have free education (incl. university) and free health care for all. So maybe Europe isn't that bad after all!
The reason why so many europeans like Obama is that we can respect him for his views. He wants to restore the American dream and change America's bad image in the rest of the world. And that we believe is crucial to the Western world.

She is not a European, but she has genuine conservative credentials. You might enjoy this article about why the granddaughter of Ike Eisenhower is supporting Obama.

A huge weakness in the Republican party of today is its departure from true fiscal conservatism.

Yes most republicans favor a weaker dollar. A weaker dollar will raise the prices of imported goods and hence be the best way to keep more jobs in the United States. For me I am more on the strong dollar side, mostly because the items I sell are imported because you can only get them imported.

Good catch.

Only slightly off topic: the fairly conservative Wall Street Journal has an editorial praising Obama in yesterday's issue...

@Beck. Well I do give him a bit more credit than that. Maybe it is because he knows that O'Reilly will be on TV and he does not have control of the spin.

@Matthew - Well see he talks through a medium, in this case the media, and the present that side of him in Europe. I think here they show that side of both of them. In most of what I saw McCain comes across much more like someone I can have a conversation with. You can tell that he listens. Most of what I see of Obama he is trying to use tricks, such as his classic "Drilling for Oil will produce no new oil today", technically true but everyone knows it will produce oil someday. Not to say that McCain does not have his own spin, but at least his spin does not make you feel like he is insulting your intelligence.

Thanks to both of you for responding, sorry if I am getting too political, I guess I am watching too much news this week.

There are a lot of people who like Obama simply because he treats them with respect. He comes across as someone with whom you can have a conversation, rather than someone who will merely talk at or to you. His rhetoric is much less confrontational and harsh than that of the other party, and so he is appreciated as someone with whom it may be able to disagree and still remain on friendly terms.

I am a US citizen with a question. Why will Obama "sit down with our enemies without preconditions", but refuse to sit down with Bill O’Reilly at Fox News? Does he feel more comfortable with our enemies?
